About the JobDescription:SUMMARY: The Pharmacy Operations Manager is responsible for: (1) the procurement, distribution, and control of all pharmaceuticals used within the North Shore Medical Center; (2) the evaluation and dissemination of comprehensive information about drugs and their use to the institution's staff and patients; and (3) the monitoring, evaluation, and assurance of the quality of drug use.​ These functions are carried out in cooperation with other institutional departments and programs.​ The Pharmacy Operations Manger oversees the activities of clinical pharmacy coordinators, any assistant management personnel, clinical pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and pharmacy students.​PRIMARY RESPONIBILITIES:- Responsible for setting the short- and long-range goals of the pharmacy based on trends in health care and institutional pharmacy practice and the specific needs of the institution.​- Ensures that there are sufficient professional and technical support personnel to achieve organizational objectives.​- Responsible for improving the health of patients of all ages by supervising care provided: (a) from all pharmacy locations; (b) while on multi-disciplinary patient care rounds; (c) through direct patient contact; and (d) to patients for whom a pharmacist consultation is requested.​- Assures that work schedules, procedures, and assignments use pharmacy personnel and resources in the most efficient manner possible.​- Ensures that all pharmacy personnel posses the education and training needed for their responsibilities and that competence of all staff is maintained through relevant continuing education programs.​- Establishes and maintains procedures for the orientation and evaluation of personnel based on predetermined objectives.​- Prepares periodic reports to the institution's administration containing qualitative and quantitative information on the pharmacy's activities.​- Directs an ongoing, systematic program for assuring the quality of pharmaceutical services.​ This program is integrated with the institution's quality improvement activities.​- Ensures compliance with relevant standards and guidelines of the American Society of Health System Pharmacists and the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Organizations.​- Arranges for adequate space, equipment, and supplies for the professional and administrative functions of the pharmacy.​- Supervises and monitors the work of pharmacists and technical support personnel.​- Works with other members of the organization to define policies and procedures governing the procurement, distribution, and control of all drugs used with the institution.​ Supports a drug distribution system that is in compliance with state and federal regulations, and in compliance with the law.​- Responsible for ensuring that the institution's staff and patients are provided with accurate, comprehensive information about drugs and their use.​- Serves as Secretary to the hospital's Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.​Qualifications:SKILLS/​COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:- Must be able to communicate effectively with members of the hospital's clinical/​management teams and staff.​MENTAL PROCESSES:Requires attention to detail and concentration.​ Good analytical skills are a must.​ Ability to manage a large number of tasks simultaneously and to anticipate future needs.​ Ability to communicate with a wide variety of professionals and non-professionals.​PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Moderate periods of exposure to computer CRT.​ External and internal applicants, as well as position incumbents who become disabled, must be able to perform the essential job functions either unaided or with the assistance of a reasonable accommodation to be determined by the organization on a case-bycase basis.​EDUCATION REQUIRED:- Graduation from an accredited college of pharmacy is required.​- An advanced degree (e.​g.​, Doctor of Pharmacy, MS in Hospital Pharmacy) and/​or the successful completion of an ASHP-accredited Residency in Pharmacy are desirable, or equivalent hospital pharmacy experience with a focus on hospital management with operational and financial focuses.​List all LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS and/​or REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED.​Licensed as a pharmacist by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.​EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:- Five to seven years' experience in institutional pharmacy practice
