Key responsibilities:
- Direct the development and execution of Database Programming strategy in collaboration with Senior Management
- Direct the recruitment, management, coaching, development and co-ordination of the Database Programming Team in line with global strategy
- Ensure personal and professional development of staff
- Ensure regular performance appraisals of staff are conducted
- Ensure the consistent, timely and quality delivery of Database Programming project deliverables to clients within the specified budget
- Responsible for performance and timelines of all deliverables for all projects
- Responsible for adherence to budget for all deliverables
- Responsible for adherence to Quality Management System for all deliverables
- Maintain professional and pro-active interactions with internal and external customers
- Manage the effective use of resources and expertise across all locations
- Responsible for effective resource assignments
- Responsible for ensuring staff utilisation as per requirements
- Responsible for proactive assignment and management of resources to projects
- Provide regular resource forecasts based on current and known future projects (including MIS)
- Direct process and system improvement initiatives including the creation and maintenance of Standard Libraries, SOP's, working practices, training programs and metrics/key performance indicators
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge on database programming techniques
- Support the development and implementation of technology solutions
- Support business development activities and contribute to the development and growth of business opportunities
- Ensure department remains profitable
- Input in cost models
- Cost proposal input/approval for RFPs and Change Orders as required
- Ensure Database Programming works in partnership with other line units to include, but not be restricted to, Biostatistics, Clinical Data Management, Programming, Technology, IT, HR, Finance & Business Information Management
- Participate in professional association meetings as time permits
Minimum requirements
- Degree in life sciences, computer sciences, pharmacy, nursing or nursing qualification (e.g. RN) or equivalent relevant experience. A lower qualification may be accepted provided this is supplemented with relevant additional experience.
- Typically several years experience in drug development, and disciplines of data management/database programming.
- Exposure to concepts of clinical database applications and platforms with a knowledge of eDM and eDC processes
- Foreign language skills would be advantageous
- Strong leadership skills
- Strong organisational, planning, resourcing and budgeting skills
- Strong Interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to operate effectively in a global environment
- Ability to manage and coordinate teams effectively
- Professional, positive and enthusiastic attitude
- Strong decision making, problem solving and negotiation skills
- Transparent, clear and precise approach
- Contribute to improving the effectiveness of the organisation such as developing new processes, systems and client relations
